Homemade gyros in pita is certainly a dish you can surprise your household with. It’s tasty, healthy and on top of that, it doesn’t take much work to prepare. The excellent taste will be appreciated by both children and adults.

Ingredients needed:

  • 0.5 kg chicken thighs
  • 1 packet of gyros seasoning a

Ingredients for pita:

– 50 gr oil
– 300 gr wheat flour
– 200 gr hot water
– 4 gr instant yeast
– pinch of salt to taste
– 1 teaspoon of nigella

Ingredients for the salad:

– 1 medium tomato
– 1 red onion
– 6 pieces of romaine lettuce, leaves
– spices to taste

Ingredients for the dip:

– 2 cloves of garlic
– bunch of fresh coriander
– 100 gr of mayonnaise
– 100 gr of thick natural yogurt
– half a lemon
– 1 teaspoon of cumin
– 1 teaspoon of fermented chili paste

Gyros in pita –the method of preparation:

  1. Separate the chicken meat from the bones, sprinkle it generously with gyros a seasoning, then bake it in a preheated to 190 degrees oven for about 45 minutes. After roasting, cut the meat into strips.
  2. In a tall vessel, mix yeast with warm water, flour, oil and cumin. Then knead the dough for about 5 minutes. Set the kneaded dough aside to rise covered for about 60 minutes in a warm place.
  3. When the dough has risen, transfer it to a pastry board previously floured. Knead the dough once more by kneading it several times, then divide it into smaller pieces and form them into balls. Dust the balls with flour again, roll them out into cakes about 20 cm in diameter. Set the formed cakes aside covered with a cloth for about 10 minutes in a warm place. After that, the pancakes should be heated without fat in a hot pan for about 40 seconds on each side, making sure not to overcook.
  4. Mix mayonnaise with yogurt, chopped cilantro and crushed garlic, chili, cumin. In the meantime, season to taste with lemon and a pinch of salt.
  5. Slice onions, lettuce and tomatoes into thin slices and mix together
  6. Put the warm pieces of meat on the pancake, add the salad and pour generously with the sauce.
